Howard Terpning: 70 Years of Art

by Matthew Innis |

By nearly any measure – awards, sales records, critical acclaim or collector demand – Howard Terpning is the most accomplished living Western artist. While there have been several major exhibitions of his work over the years, there has never been a true retrospective exhibition. Booth Western Art Museum will correct this oversight with Howard Terpning: 70 Years of Art, an exhibition focusing on four major segments of his artistic output – early illustrations, movie posters for major motion pictures (including The Sound of Music and Gone With the Wind), combat art from a tour with the United States Marines in Vietnam as a civilian combat artist, and nearly 40 major paintings from his fine art career. For the first time, the art gathered together will introduce audiences to the steppingstones of his early career that led to his masterful paintings that today sell for upwards of $2 million at auction. The official exhibition opening reception is February 24 in conjunction with Boots ‘N’ Saddles.

Where: Booth Western Art Museum, Cartersville (GA)
