Darren Kingsley: Portrait Painting
by Matthew Innis |This workshop studies the portrait through a series of studies as well as a longer pose. It will cover simplifying the head through large shadow and light shapes, studying color through simplified color studies and studying form, anatomy and facial structure through a long pose. The class will begin with demos in the mornings explaining the concepts for the day followed by studies of those concepts with critiques. The last three days will begin with a continuing demo in the morning followed by a 3-day long pose portrait painting.
Two days of studies
• Duotone and grisaille
• Color study with different lights/fabric colors
Followed by a three-day pose
• Demo in the mornings for approximately 1.5 hours
• Followed by long pose for the remainder of the week
Studio Incamminati artist and Instructor Darren Kingsley conducts a three-hour portrait demo, 6–9 p.m., Wednesday, April 5, at the 3rd Street Gallery. It is free to the workshop participants and $15 to the general public.
Instructor and Studio Incamminati alumnus Darren Kingsley’s paintings hang in the collections of Lucasfilm Ltd., the film production company founded by Star Wars creator George Lucas, and The Union League of Philadelphia as well as numerous private collections.
