When Moreau reflected upon his students later in life, he named Maxence as one of the best he ever produced, and critics agreed. Of all of Moreau’s pupils, Maxence was considered the one who carried his master’s banner of Symbolism the furthest, the longest, and perhaps, the most successfully.
