Art & the Animal

by Matthew Innis |

In 1958, a group of nine artists formed the Society of Animal Artists after receiving an enthusiastic public response to an exhibition titled Animal in the Bronx Zoo. The Briscoe Western Art Museum is pleased to host the 59th Annual Exhibition of the Society of Animal Artists through our upcoming exhibition, Art and the Animal, that will feature over 100 paintings and sculptures of animals around the world.

The Society of Animal Artists (SAA) is devoted to promoting excellence in the artistic portrayal of the creatures sharing our planet, and to the education of the public through art exhibitions, informative seminars, lectures and teaching demonstrations.  The SAA’s membership, past and present, represents a veritable who’s who of artists from around the world.
