Painting the Clothed Figure Workshop

5 Days 9:30 to 4:30 (1 hour lunch break)

Cost: $750

Instructor: Iliya Mirochnik

The clothed full-figure portrait has long been considered a complex undertaking. In addition to the extensive list of challenges encountered when working from the nude model, the clothed figure requires a more subtle depiction of anatomical forms. This workshops aims to break down this process, exploring the effect of underlying anatomical structures on clothing, as well as how a figure’s attire influences the overall composition of the painting, its mood, and on the viewers’ perception of the model. In addition to working on a painting, participants will be analyzing examples from the history of art and supplementing their work with graphite and charcoal sketches of cloth on human form.

Iliya Mirochnik will be doing demonstrations throughout the workshop.
